In Time for Christmas?

Have you ever made home-made Christmas presents? Just in case, this is something to consider, let me share with you how this could go…

  1. There’s this great home-made gift idea! It is awe-inspiring and everyone will appreciate it and use it.
  2. It is a few months before the holidays
  3. You’ll plan to work on it over the weekends
  4. The flu will entangle a weekend
  5. Sinus pain and ear aches envelope another weekend
  6. There are too many activities required at church and with family and friends taking up valuable weekend hours
  7. It’s okay, there’s always next weekend
  8. There’s that girls’ weekend you’re hosting and will need to put the project away to make room for company
  9. No projects come out again for another three weeks while you forget that Christmas IS coming
  10. The materials run short and shopping at craft stores ensues
  11. It’s 5 days ’til Christmas and 90% of the project has yet to be complete
  12. At this point, do you start shopping or stay awake around the clock until it’s done?

I’ll let you know.

My Favorite Present

The favorite present someone gave my uncle for Christmas. He left it overnight for me to enjoy. I adore fleece!

Hand-made Ornament

Last year for Christmas, my friend Kerrie gave me an ornament with my initial on it. She actually painted it in front of me, saying that it was for her friend Katie for Christmas. We were at the Fire House in Marshall, Michigan (http://thefirehousepotterystudio.com). It is one of the best places in Marshall, in addition to the scrapbook retreat, scrapbook store, and beading store. Of course Kerrie and I would enjoy these things together, because we met over crafting.

I believe it was 2006 when I was unemployed. As with the death of my father and other loved ones, there is also before and after being unemployed for nearly a year. I met Kerrie during that period of unemployment while enjoying the only extravagance I maintained – scrapbooking. It’s more like high quality therapy for me, and I even have something tangible to take home at the end of the night, in addition to the boost of encouragement from faithful and faith-filled friends.

An adult once told me when I was entering college that people rarely make friends after college. I feel sad for that person, because I have made many treasured friends since then. Kerrie is one such gem. She was introduced to me by another friend I made scrapbooking – Marilyn – whom I had been scrapbooking with for years. The fun thing about all three of us is that we not only enjoy crafting, remain single (not all of us by choice), and have faith in the Lord, but we also have spoiled pets and volunteer for animal rescue groups.

Friends are a blessing, no matter where and when we meet them. May you have friends you can depend on who give you personal gifts too – most especially time!

The cat next to the Christmas tree says, "This is the very best Christmas tree ever. Look into my eyes and you will agree with me." The cat's eyes are a bit too bright from the flash.

Last Christmas

Last Christmas, I spent a few days in the presence of greatness. I got to spend a weekend with Stacy. She is a dear and treasured friend, for a double-digit quantity of years that I’m not sure I’m permitted to share here. I saw some of the sights where she lives and dined deliciously on her luscious baking and cooking skills. We cuddled with her dog, and she let me camp out with True Blood (not exactly Christmas themed). She also took me to this magical garden center with row upon row upon row of poinsettia and a few other pretty plants.

This year, I haven’t made it to see her. I can’t let that happen again next year. Knowing her is a Christmas gift that I’ve been blessed with for a very long time, and I need to treat her like the amazing gift that she is in my life. There are many friends in this world, and I need to treat them all like the priceless gems that they are.

Stacy,
Sending you love, memories, and respect for all you are yesterday, today, and tomorrow. When I count my blessings, I count you.
Your Friend, Kim

Some Endure with Grace…

Some endure the winter with grace. This photo is not of me.

Candy Cane Lane

As a child, we would often drive around the park on the way home from church sometime around Christmas. We usually didn’t get out to walk among it.

As an adult, I have stopped plenty to walk through Candy Cane Lane, admire the Nativity, and wander among the reindeer scattered about. It never gets old. But it does get cold.

Moral of the Story: Just because you didn’t as a child, doesn’t mean you can’t as an adult.
