What’s Outside?

The cat said, “What’s outside?”

The person said, “Danger, my friend. Danger.”

The cat asked, “Why?”

The person said, “Predators, extreme weather, and traffic.”

The cat said, “Is it worth it to keep me in here?”

The person said, “You are a treasure. It is well worth it to keep you safe, healthy, warm, and loved.”

The cat said, “Thank you, my friend. I love you too … most of the time.”

Family Fun

Last night I finally got together with family to play euchre for my first time. It was fun to play with my mom, aunt, and cousin. It was a fun girls night with good conversation, laughter, a game I’m still not completely sure of (but making progress), looking at photos, a shared meal, and dessert.

As fun as euchre was, the dessert was the attention getter. My cousin bought a pie from Sam’s Club that has four fruits in one pie shell … separate from one another. I got a slice of peach and blueberry (please see lovely photo). My aunt had the same (but they were a 1/2 slice of each since I nagged my cousin for a combo piece), and my mom and cousin each stuck to a single fruit. Even after we enjoyed delectable bites of 1/2 the pie, I’m pretty sure it still weighed 10 pounds when we moved it back to the kitchen.

We had so much fun, we plan to do it again. I must count my blessings yet again. I enjoy the time spent with family, laughing with them, and remembering them in my prayers. I pray you also have family to enjoy, and if not – great friends who become like family.

Seattle, Washington: Episode 13

Okay, maybe it’s not the best overall cheese ever, because I didn’t try everything they’ve got. But the cheese curds were!

Christmas Trial and Error

I saw this somewhere or other and thought I’d try it for Christmas Dinner 2011. It is two black olives for the body, a small ball of mozzarella cheese for the belly (split the belly and stuff the mozzarella ball inside), and carrot for the nose and feet (kinda gross if you think about the nose which was cut out from the feet).

It was a great trial, but it was also merely a cute decoration. The error in this trial? Most of my family will not eat a black olive even if it would save them from starvation on a desert island.

Moral of the Story: Cross check your ingredients against the food preferences of your family and friends. Unless you want to finish them off yourself over the next week. Which could be fun too.

Fairies in the News?

I was busy editing photos (I’m months behind and anxious to be caught up by year’s end) while listening to the news (instead of watching – I could have been distracted), when I hear the anchor say that a “fairy hit a pier”. What! I immediately envisioned Tinkerbell and the three fairies from Disney’s Snow White using their wands to hit a pier on the ocean. Wow! Did that happen?

I turn my head a bit and peek at the news, Nope, it’s just a giant boat (a.k.a. ferry) that has some damage from hitting a pier in New Jersey.

Isn’t the mind amazing? I guess my head was in the clouds.

Giving Thanks – November 30

On this last day of the month of Thanksgiving, I go back to faith. I believe in religious freedom, with one requirement – that the religion have peace as a core value. For me, it is Christianity. There is always much to learn no matter your religion. The lessons are endless, which is why my dad was still attending Sunday School in his 70’s.

There is a Greek saying that I hope I get right (or at least close) “Vocatus atque non vocatus, Deus aderit” which effectively means “Bidden or not, God is present”.

Thank you for enduring these 30 days of thankfulness.

On to December tomorrow: May your Christmas be merry and bright! And may the reason for the season be at the center.
