Giving Thanks – November 11

Giving thanks for seasons. Even though it was supposed to be 46 F today and it was only 30 F so that the second snow fall of the year is sticking. Brrrrr!

Then again, it’s Michigan – wait a few minutes, hours, or days and the weather will change.

Autumn: More Fun When Others Play Along

A few years ago I stayed in a hotel for one night near Halloween. The lobby had pumpkins the staff had carved. I adore Autumn. It’s even more fun when others get into it as well and share in the festivities. If only I could remember the name of this hotel that made my stay more fun.

The Pumpkin Man!

It’s that time of year! Delightful smells, gorgeous colors, and festivities everywhere.

Kalamazoo has a treasure this time of year in all of the farms with fun activities, treats to eat, and tours to tantalize. We are fortunate to have many apple farms, fruit stands, and corn mazes. Since my brother has an autumn fruit stand, I don’t much get around to the others. Yet, they are all of value no matter if they’re mostly for fun or muchly for games.

One pictured here is JUST for pumpkins! And it’s NO fruit “stand”. It’s an all out farm with ONE product for ONE month of the year. Honestly, I haven’t purchased much here, but I sure do enjoy getting great shots of pumpkins galore. I also appreciate that it’s a centennial farm, just as our family farm is over 100 years old as well.

If you’re in Kalamazoo, check out some of the great autumn fun, smells, tastes, and colors.

I’m So Excited!

It’s almost here! The trees are starting to turn and the weather was kind today. Autumn is on it’s way!

Temperatures that I enjoy, smells that bring me alive, visions of beauty all around, and tastes that I could dine on every day.

Some say they don’t like the autumn because they know what’s coming after. I disagree. Why torture yourself about the difficult thing to come when there is a great thing right here at your finger tips? Be in the moment, and enjoy this most amazing gift. So many in this world have not ever seen the gorgeous autumn that we get in Michigan.

Happy Autumn!

Dear Mother Nature

Dear Mother Nature,

I have defended your chilly winds, snowy days, and gray rains. No, Michigan is not supposed to have temperatures in the 80s in January, February, or March like it was for a time last year. We needed the chilly weather and rain to have great produce in the fall. But aren’t you taking this a bit far?

It’s late April. Yes, we need April Showers for May Flowers. But really? Snow? Hail? Freezing rain? Mother Nature, this is taking it to the extreme.

We, the people of these United States, are ready for the temperatures you have made us accustom to in April. We’ve taken the brunt, we’re ready for the reward of spring. And then summer. Take your time with autumn. Winter is needed, but no rush, so long as it’s a white Christmas.

Yours sincerely,
We, the People
Lovers of Warmth

PS: By warmth, I don’t mean hot. Let’s not go overboard like last summer with lots of temps in the sweaty, nasty 90s. Seriously, some moderation, please!

No Ice, Please!

As the sister of a fruit farmer

This is not a sight to behold

Ice on a bud

Is a big no, no

If we desire fruit in the fall

We need warmth after the budding begins

Autumn Smells the Best

Small Autumn

Small Autumn 2

Small Autumn 3Oh, Autumn,

how I adore thee.

The scents are

the most divine.

The bold reds,

golden yellow,

and spicy pumpkin

shades all around.

Freshly slain grass,

and

dying leaves.

Oh, Autumn,

how I adore thee.
