Recovery

These lovely ladies had a difficult day. After the one lost a canine tooth recently, I felt it was long past due for a dental cleaning.

They were not pleased when bedtime came and the water was removed and no meal was offered. They spent the night continuing the check their dishes in shock that they were empty. How could someone who loves them leave them empty? Then this morning there was much crying from the moment they were zipped into carriers until we reached the office of the vet. I finally stopped when I got to work.

I was a nervous Nelly all day. I want nothing but the best for them, and I fear them picking something up from the other patients at the vet. People do it in hospitals, and it can happen to pets at the vet too.

Fortunately, they did great! Only one tooth needed pulling and their blood panel was amazingly good for their age. The vet explained how it all went to me when I picked them up. After some stumbling around tonight and slowly deciding it was okay to eat with those aching jaws, they are content little ladies this evening.

I do have to admit that it was cute to watch them walk on unsteady feet from the anesthesia, which had not yet worn off. But not cute enough to take photos. They deserve some privacy during recovery.

Moral of the Story: Sometimes we do things we don’t like for the benefit of those we love. And visits to the dentist are NOT something I enjoy either!

Perspective

Today all my mind is able to concentrate on is that my sweet little girl lost a canine tooth. She’s 15, so it’s not exactly a surprise … although her sister has eaten more human food, so I always thought her teeth would go first. This is a sign of aging I’m having a hard time living with.

The gray section of my bangs? It actually looks like I’ve had it colored, and people compliment me on it. I let them know it’s all God’s doing.

The wrinkles by my eyes and on my forehead? No big deal, it’s just skin.

Pretty sure menopause is coming? Thank goodness, let’s get it over with and be on the other side!

But my cats’ tooth? Oy! This is my little honey bunny who plays with her toys. My sweetheart who still runs through the house like a cheetah each night at 10 p.m. My monkey bunkey who touches my face to wake me when I over-sleep. To see my friends, family, and cats age … it’s not easy.

Moral of the Story: Love hurts. And yet life is beautiful if you do it. This thing that hurts = Do It!
