Progress – She’s Still Here

Okay, this is nuts. Daffy was miserable and wouldn’t drink since early afternoon yesterday. She would eat a few bites now and then, but not much.

So, I wake early to call for an appointment.

I leave work early to take her to the vet. Will need to make up time for that.

I get home, and she walks away from me under the corner table. She knows where we’re to go.

Finally get her to the vet. …

… SHE’S IMPROVED !

  • NOT dehydrated
  • Eyes look great
  • Lungs are clear
  • Tongue looks great
  • Slight heart murmur – but normal for age

Since nothing else looks wrong, we took blood work to be sure, since she gave me a fright:

  • Creatinine – 2 points BETTER than 6 weeks ago
  • BUN – Same as 5 weeks ago, so it’s good enough
  • Liver – Awesome!

Basically, Jerry Lee (vet receptionist/accountant/administration) and I decided that she just likes to hear Jerry Lee and I converse while waiting on the results.

Giving Thanks – November 29

I give thanks today for a day at home. Even though we cleaned out registers, organized closets, re-arranged drawers, hung up long awaiting laundry, and found lots of items to donate to the Free Store at church (http://www.sunnysideumc.com/vision-and-mission.html), I was glad to be in a place of comfort and rest.

Don’t worry, we got in plenty of couch time cuddling kitties, watching holiday movies, enjoying left-overs (seriously, vegetarians do make veggies tasty), and finding a pair of socks that fit perfectly without sliding around (thought I’d lost them over a year ago).

I pray your day was full good things, and that tomorrow is great!

What Happens in Vegas (07)

Las Vegas has so much to offer! Seafood buffets, a gigantic chocolate fountain, steak galore, and alcoholic beverages everywhere. What caught my eye? You’ve guessed right: Popcorn!!!

Moral of the Story: Even in far off lands, you might find something that reminds you of home.

Returning Home

Returning home from a long weekend away, there are two reactions:

  • The one says … “Where where you! Why did you leave me? Never go away again!”
  • The other thinks … “She doesn’t exist until I can find forgiveness for this grievous abandonment in my heart.”

The Voice in my Car

I enjoy books. I enjoy reading. For me, reading takes many forms. The two I use the most are with my eyes and my ears. Yes, listening is another way of reading – to me.

Most of the time, I have an audio book going in the car. I recently downloaded from LibriVox It’s Like This, Cat by Emily Cheney Neville. It was read by Betsie Bush. (Here’s a link if you’re interested in “reading” it too: http://librivox.org/its-like-this-cat-by-emily-neville/.)

Betsie has been a friend since before kindergarten. That was a very, very, very, very long time ago. We have endured trials and celebrated triumphs. We have had falling outs and we’ve fallen down screaming with laughter. We have had many years to appreciate one another. Her voice is to me the sound of home.

So, when I started this cute audio story, I was looking forward to hearing the words read by my friend. Turned out, at the sound of her voice, I wanted to talk with her!

It drove me crazy to hear her voice each day, and not be able to carry on a conversation. Ack!

Well, I muddled through, each time I turned this on in the car, talking back at the audiobook by telling Betsie about my day, asking her how things are going, and laughing out loud at myself. I often talk to myself, but I’m sure this was stare worthy of my fellow drivers on the road. I yammered away at my dear friend for most of the book!

Not sure how much of the story I heard. Not sure I can do another one, but I might give it a try. It was nice to have her in my car for a few days.

Betsie, you’re always with me, even when you’re not.

Today?

The first cat asks the second cat a question. What is the response as these two girls lounge about in their home on their own?

Home

Everyone needs a home. Sometimes that home is a little too close to your home.

The Drive Home

Today I ran an errand on the other side of town. Since the “back roads” were quicker to travel home, I enjoyed a country drive this evening. But the closer I drove to home, the more people I thought of in my life.

About half way home, I thought of my niece and nephew who both own homes nearby. I enjoy their company and am so glad they are doing well.

A little further and I saw the street to take to one of my cousin’s home. She’s a fellow scrapbooker, but has been working too much to go lately. I always feel loved in her company.

Next was a new friend from my scrapbooking life. She is a great cat mamma and is very creative. Her home has a full room dedicated to scrapbooking, but she allows her husband to think he has a desk in there. (No, he has a chair, the desk drawers are hers.)

Soon I drove by our neighbors only a couple of miles from home. They are so good to us and my mom and I both enjoy any time we get to spend with them.

Within only a quarter-mile was my sister’s home. I was glad to see she was already home for the night since she can work long hours. I need to spend more time with her.

I encountered more homes of loved ones before I made it to my own. What a blessing to be able to take a drive and encounter joyous memories of so many people.

I pray you find good memories the next time you’re traveling home.
