Giving Thanks – November 29

I give thanks today for a day at home. Even though we cleaned out registers, organized closets, re-arranged drawers, hung up long awaiting laundry, and found lots of items to donate to the Free Store at church (http://www.sunnysideumc.com/vision-and-mission.html), I was glad to be in a place of comfort and rest.

Don’t worry, we got in plenty of couch time cuddling kitties, watching holiday movies, enjoying left-overs (seriously, vegetarians do make veggies tasty), and finding a pair of socks that fit perfectly without sliding around (thought I’d lost them over a year ago).

I pray your day was full good things, and that tomorrow is great!

Even Nature Sleeps

It’s good to know that even nature closes the blinds and curls into a cozy ball for the night.

The first photo was taken at 2:40 p.m. one Saturday afternoon.

This second photo was taken at 11:30 p.m. later that night.

So glad I my friends stayed late and that I walked them out. I don’t usually come in that door at night.

Independence Day 2012

Growing up, my family hasn’t done much to celebrate July 4th. We had several reasons.

  • My father’s father and my mother’s father were both born on July 4th. When they passed on, there wasn’t the birthday party to celebrate them on the 4th any longer.
  • My father was a dairy farmer, so after milking the cows for the second time, going somewhere to see fire works wasn’t high on the list.
  • We would sometimes go to the top of our apple orchard and watch the fire works in town, but over the years the trees have grown up too tall, and it’s no fun to watch just the top of the festive displays.

Now, as a working adult, I must say that I am pleased with this setup. I enjoy a day at home. I enjoy celebrating the nation’s birthday and that of my grandfathers by sleeping in, watching movies, and taking a nap.

Moral of the Story: Sometimes there’s nothing more pleasant than relaxing on a holiday. Letting your body renew in preparation in order to be your best when life returns to the usual routines.

Sometimes, You Just Have to Sit Down … On The Job

The Humane Society held it’s annual Kalamazoo Dog Walk at the Prairie View Park in Kalamazoo County on Saturday, May 4th. A few of the dogs in the rescue, seeking forever homes, came to the event to show off their awesomeness.

At the end of the day, sometimes, you just have to sit down on the cooler to rest your wary bones. This young gent needed a break after being a great sport all day long. Praying he finds his forever home soon!

Sunset

Sunset.

Rest.

Closing out the day.

Preparing for a new tomorrow.

Gathering my thoughts.

Relax.

Twilight.
