Hand-made Ornament

Last year for Christmas, my friend Kerrie gave me an ornament with my initial on it. She actually painted it in front of me, saying that it was for her friend Katie for Christmas. We were at the Fire House in Marshall, Michigan (http://thefirehousepotterystudio.com). It is one of the best places in Marshall, in addition to the scrapbook retreat, scrapbook store, and beading store. Of course Kerrie and I would enjoy these things together, because we met over crafting.

I believe it was 2006 when I was unemployed. As with the death of my father and other loved ones, there is also before and after being unemployed for nearly a year. I met Kerrie during that period of unemployment while enjoying the only extravagance I maintained – scrapbooking. It’s more like high quality therapy for me, and I even have something tangible to take home at the end of the night, in addition to the boost of encouragement from faithful and faith-filled friends.

An adult once told me when I was entering college that people rarely make friends after college. I feel sad for that person, because I have made many treasured friends since then. Kerrie is one such gem. She was introduced to me by another friend I made scrapbooking – Marilyn – whom I had been scrapbooking with for years. The fun thing about all three of us is that we not only enjoy crafting, remain single (not all of us by choice), and have faith in the Lord, but we also have spoiled pets and volunteer for animal rescue groups.

Friends are a blessing, no matter where and when we meet them. May you have friends you can depend on who give you personal gifts too – most especially time!

Giving Thanks – November 24

I give thanks for a shot in the dark. This photo was a shot in the dark, and it turned out pretty great. Therefore, perhaps I will marry my millionaire soul mate yet! You know, the one who will adore my cats, allow me to scrapbook unconditionally, enjoy reading as much as I do, happily join in my church and faith with me, and pose for pictures whenever I say, “Cheese!”.

Giving Thanks – November 6

I give thanks for friends. My mom pointed out recently that I have met most of my recent friends through my obsession, I mean hobby, of scrapbooking. Therefore, I give thanks for scrapbooking as well.

This is from an event at Pretty Lake Aventure Camp. Our adventures consisted of fussing over paper color coordination with photos, aggressively hunting down the appropriate sticker for the event, pushing your neighbor into testing out the newest tool to see if it’s something you want to buy, and climbing over each other to buy the last quality tape runner.

May you find friends who enjoy the same activities.

Do You Dream in Color?

Do you dream in color?
I do! Usually fabrics, yarn, and scrapbook papers.

Do you dream in texture?
I do! Usually clean cottons, Angora fur, and mulberry paper.

Do you dream in sound?
I do! The click of corner rounders, the clink of crochet hooks, and the chink of pottery on the table.

Do you dream with scents?
I do! Clean cottons, fresh cut paper, and ink from pens.

Moral of the Story: Dream of what you enjoy, be it at night or in the day.

Sun Setting on the Day

This photo is taken at a scrapbook retreat Inn. I enjoy most of the time spent here, except of course when I need to prepare my one meal for the weekend or get a migraine. These weekends, only a couple of times each year, are spent with friends doing something I enjoy.

When the sun sets on the day, we still have a few more hours of scrapping. Yet, it means the end of the weekend is one day closer.

There are some things in life, for which I do not like the sun to set on. Time with friends is one of them. Enjoying photos of memorable moments is another.

What do you wish the sun would not set on?

2013 Resolutions

Exercise small

What to do in 2013:

  1. Write in my journal daily.
I’ve heard that after 30 consecutive days, anything becomes a long-term habit. I’ve never made it past 3 months.
  2. Write for this blog daily.
This is my 9th consecutive day. I’ve never done more than 2 days in a row.
  3. Keep my bedroom organized.
The last time was in 1983.
  4. Before # 3, I need to organize my bedroom.
I’ll have the cats help by picking up their own toys.
  5. Clean and organize the old section of the basement.
Can I just pull up a Best Way garbage truck?
  6. Read 95 books.
I’m already 3% behind according to www.goodreads.com. I can always throw in some children’s books to achieve that one.
  7. Lose 15 pounds and keep it off.
I have a gym membership, I just might use it. I could also reduce the carbs (Not this carb-a-holic!). I hear laughter can wear away pounds. That’s my plan: Laugh it off.
  8. Nap as needed, pray often, and scrapbook with friends.
I needed something I’m guaranteed to complete.

What will you do in 2013?
