I give thanks for friends. My mom pointed out recently that I have met most of my recent friends through my obsession, I mean hobby, of scrapbooking. Therefore, I give thanks for scrapbooking as well.
This is from an event at Pretty Lake Aventure Camp. Our adventures consisted of fussing over paper color coordination with photos, aggressively hunting down the appropriate sticker for the event, pushing your neighbor into testing out the newest tool to see if it’s something you want to buy, and climbing over each other to buy the last quality tape runner.
May you find friends who enjoy the same activities.

I give thanks for history … now. It sure wasn’t a subject I had any appreciation for during school days, unless it was a family member telling stories of their childhood.
Today, I see the value in history. We can learn from it, avoid mistakes because of it, see each other with new eyes, and find the humor in our past actions. Sometimes, even the bad in history can show how far we’ve come … or how far we have yet to go. Other times we can see how much we have changed, and how much remains the same.
May you leave a history behind you worth reading about.

I give thanks for family!
Most of these photos were taken in October 2004 when we celebrated my dad’s 80th birthday for him, since he was busy chatting it up in Heaven. Obviously, his photo was taken well before, but a few others were taken after, such as his new great-grandchildren. Two in this grouping are no longer with us here, but we will all be together again one day. It’s worth the wait to enjoy all of the family … immediate, mom’s side, dad’s side, and those we’ve adopted into our hearts.

Today I give thanks for growing up on a farm. The cows, pigs, hay, manure, apples, peaches, and more.
As with anything, there are benefits and deficits. It’s a great example to live by. I hope I can do it.

I give thanks for faith. When all else fails, faith remains. While enduring job loss, death, illness, and all of those nasty things, faith remains. And with faith, there is hope.
No one said that having faith was easy. It’s far from it. But it is invaluable.
I give thanks for the priceless gift of faith.

A friend is posting on facebook things she is thankful for each day of November, in honor of Thanksgiving. I’m poaching her idea. Thanks, Meg!
The first thing I’m thankful for is my parents. I thank them for life, a good home life, a great family, instilling in me care for all of God’s creatures (mostly the furry ones), teaching me faith in the Lord, and having patience with me … most of the time.

For a long while, I have been scrapbooking every few Friday nights. It tends to be a girl thing, and I’ve made several lasting friends from this adventure. I have also encountered many pallet pleasing pleasures.
One night, years ago, one of our fellow scrappy chicks brought us a cake to celebrate autumn and our adventures in photo preservation and documentation. This tasty treat came from Boonzaaijers. There isn’t much as good as the Bavarian cream filling Boonzaaijers uses to entice pallets near and far.
Thank you, Scrappy Chick Gayle, for sharing this delicacy!

The Annual Halloween Mini-Pumpkin Decorating Contest of 2009 ramped it up a notch. I wish I could remember who won.

I thought mine was quite creative. It was intended to be an appetizer of “Carved Pumpkin”. I think it was an intern who added a bit more to mine. There should have been a number to vote for the two of us together, him with his fork and me with my knife.

In the office I worked in back in 2008, we had mini-pumpkin decorating contests each Halloween. Thank goodness it wasn’t carving! I would not have done well, and I tend to do unintended damage with knives.
The competition was fierce…

If I remember right, the hamburger won…

But I still think I did okay…

A few years ago I stayed in a hotel for one night near Halloween. The lobby had pumpkins the staff had carved. I adore Autumn. It’s even more fun when others get into it as well and share in the festivities. If only I could remember the name of this hotel that made my stay more fun.
