Giving Thanks – November 15
Today I give thanks for my mom. She’s been here for me from spending the day of my birth alone in the hospital room while my dad worked at home fixing the furnace and milking the cows all the way through broken hearts and healed hearts, lost jobs and found jobs, being a jerk to being a joy, misplaced hope and faith renewed.
It’s even better to give thanks for her and gratitude to her on this day of her birth. Mom, here’s wishing you joy in every day and a continued healthy heart and mind. You are much loved. Wishing you a joyous birthday!
Side note: I treated her to dinner, but surprised her with a few extra dinner guests. Sadly, I forgot to take photos. Me of all people!

I give thanks when other people do the cooking. I don’t like to cook, wash fruit and veggies, chop things, clean up, or wash dishes. But I do them anyway.
There are a few dishes I like to make, because I like the flavors a certain way. I like to wash some dishes when my hands are cold, but not too many at once.
Even while standing right by the stove, I can still burn a grilled cheese sandwich. I thank God my dad and brother never once complained about all of the burned dinners I made them. Could be because they were too tired from working on the farm all day to care, but I appreciate their silence on my ability to turn anything into a Cajun dish (my definition of the meals I burn).
I give thanks for dinners with friends and family out, family gatherings, and potlucks. Only one dish on my part – that I can handle. Especially if I can bring bread … from one of our many good bakeries.
I do cook, wash, chop, clean, and wash, but I really, really, really like it when other people do it.

Today I give thanks for my furry friends near and far.
November 10th was the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue’s annual dinner auction. With the funds raised, lives are saved. These lives captured here were all saved through rescue. I pray one day you too will know the unending love of a rescued furry friend. Unless you already wear animal hair everywhere, so that you live this agape love.

Today I am giving thanks for employment. This year we’ve moved twice, been through much and repeated upheaval, and each of us have had our own challenges outside of the office. Yet we are an amazing team of women who work well together, hash out problems together, celebrate solutions together, and continue to enjoy each other after several years and many changes.
We also have a variety of activities at work and never know what question will be facing us next, which offers the variety I seek in a workplace. Although some questions stump me, I can turn to my office colleagues. If we don’t find the answer, I can reach out to our State of Michigan network. If that doesn’t pan out, I can then reach out nationally. By then, someone somewhere usually has the answer. Granted, the answer might not be what we’d hoped for, but the facts have been culled out.
May you know and achieve a workplace that brings you joy and fulfillment. I know it’s easier said than done, which makes me extra thankful and grateful for this gift at this time.

Today I give thanks for photography. It helps to see the world in new ways, with new perspectives. It is a blessing from the Lord of Love.
My phone image of a stream under a bridge is to the left. The phone image on the right is from my friend’s phone. Please scroll below…
The following image is from my camera. Obviously, this led to much discussion. … keep scrolling …
May you find a blessing that makes life better for you.

I give thanks for children. They are our future.
Even more, I give thanks for the children I know. For example, my friends’ children. It is an absolute joy to watch the children of my friends grow and thrive. It’s as though I get to be friends with my friend again. I wonder if that’s how grandparent’s feel? They get to see their child in a whole new light.
May all of the children in your life be healthy and happy. We already know that they are beautiful.

Giving thanks for old friends. NO! I don’t mean the aged. I mean long-term. Those who endure me for years on end. I am ultra blessed that there are many souls who have met me and still call me friend years later. Sometimes, even their husbands find me tolerable. Shocking!
I pray that you too have friends new and old in your life – no matter their age.

I give thanks for humor. In 2006, I was downsized from work. To say the least, I was down in the dumps. In order to cheer me up, a friend took me to the dump! Ironic, right?
It was one of the best days I’ve ever had with her and her family. Her mom, her daughter, and I joined her on a trip to the dump where her family works. I got a tour of the whole shebang! After, we stopped for a little shopping and ice cream at the Sugar Bear in Paw Paw.
When you’re down in the dumps, you might find the dump refreshing.
