Recovery

These lovely ladies had a difficult day. After the one lost a canine tooth recently, I felt it was long past due for a dental cleaning.

They were not pleased when bedtime came and the water was removed and no meal was offered. They spent the night continuing the check their dishes in shock that they were empty. How could someone who loves them leave them empty? Then this morning there was much crying from the moment they were zipped into carriers until we reached the office of the vet. I finally stopped when I got to work.

I was a nervous Nelly all day. I want nothing but the best for them, and I fear them picking something up from the other patients at the vet. People do it in hospitals, and it can happen to pets at the vet too.

Fortunately, they did great! Only one tooth needed pulling and their blood panel was amazingly good for their age. The vet explained how it all went to me when I picked them up. After some stumbling around tonight and slowly deciding it was okay to eat with those aching jaws, they are content little ladies this evening.

I do have to admit that it was cute to watch them walk on unsteady feet from the anesthesia, which had not yet worn off. But not cute enough to take photos. They deserve some privacy during recovery.

Moral of the Story: Sometimes we do things we don’t like for the benefit of those we love. And visits to the dentist are NOT something I enjoy either!

New Taste!

Although I was born and raised in an apple orchard, apples are far from my favorite fruit. The one fruit that is more than plentiful three months a year in my own backyard is very low on my list of desired foods. Banana, strawberry, raspberry, peach, pear, plum, blackberry, nectarine, watermelon, honeydew melon, kiwi, pomegranate, blueberry, and prickly pear all come long before apple in my list of favorite fruits.

To further add to the apple thing, I only like them sweet. I have not felt that any of the early apples (September through early October) were sweet enough. Or, as my father’s father would say, low acid (a sweet apple is just lower in acid, but supposedly not an increase in sugar). That new fangled apple they call Honey Crisp, I don’t get it. I don’t find it sweet. It doesn’t have the delightful flavor (as apples go) of a Golden Delicious or Mutzu or even an early Red Delicious.

However, this year, I found an apple that is both early in the season AND sweet. Talhman Sweet. I’m sold!

Moral of the Story: Things change. Do you? Or do things remain the same, and you’re willing to give them a try … anyway?

What Happens in Vegas (07)

Las Vegas has so much to offer! Seafood buffets, a gigantic chocolate fountain, steak galore, and alcoholic beverages everywhere. What caught my eye? You’ve guessed right: Popcorn!!!

Moral of the Story: Even in far off lands, you might find something that reminds you of home.

What Happens in Vegas (06 part 2 of 2)

This is one quick shot of the over-sized garden the Bellagio had on display in 2010.

I like bees. Well, it’s more appreciation and respect. With the farm, we need bees to help pollinate the fruit. Therefore, we need bees. Although I’m not allergic to a bee sting, I still don’t LIKE to be stung. However, this exhibit had the bees a little too big for my taste. These were the things of nightmares.

Moral of the Story: Sometimes there’s just one thing that takes away from the beauty. Overgrown bees in a glass garden take away the beauty for me.

What Happens in Vegas (06 part 1 of 2)

When I was in Vegas in 2010 for work, the colleague I toured the town with at night said I had to get to the Bellagio to see the annual Chihuly exhibit first. I’d seen bits and pieces of this hotel in movies, so I was plenty curious to check it out. It was a festive sight! So much glass! This is the usual display (so I’m told) in the Bellagio lobby. Tomorrow I’ll share their special exhibit.

Moral of the Story: Don’t show all of your cards at once!

360 Degrees

Sometimes, what you need to see is behind you, beside you, or over you. Don’t forget to take a spin around and look up and down to see all there is to see. You will usually be all the better for it.

Just look at this gorgeous picture I was able to capture when this little lady turned around to inspect her environment. She knows where we all are at any time, and she even knows when someone is coming to our front door before they get there.

Moral of the Story: If you turn around, you may know things that others miss out on.

Seek and You Shall Find

I keep hearing so-called experts in social media claim that people don’t check beyond the first page of a search on the internet.

They obviously haven’t bothered to ask me about this. Sometimes the most fascinating information comes from the second, third, or seventh page. It’s something I’ve always done, because even without knowing about paid search engine optimization all those years ago, I was suspicious of the first page returns for a search engine. Sure enough, the real matches are sometimes four and five pages deep.

Some examples I’ve found are health issues from the CDC, Shakespeare facts from history experts, and cat health facts from actual veterinarians. Not the cat health facts from the three top pet food companies who are constantly competing for the top space everywhere, but actual doctors. Sure, the pet food companies do hire vets to get the facts, but I’d rather hear it straight from the vets mouth and not second-hand through the food company. Or at least to hear it from both and find that the facts from both match up.

That leads me to another thing… do people just go with one of the search returns on the first page for all of their information about that topic? Hmmm… last I knew it was good to research multiple websites. Good stuff is found by getting to the fifth and sixth page for lots of great details!

Moral of the Story: Just as beauty is not merely skin deep, neither is an internet search. Dig deep and see the heart of the matter.
